We come across the information about Latur region from A.D.7th century. In that era Latur was known as Lattalur,/Lattanur and further for some time in Nizam dynasty it was called as Latpur. First king of Rashtrakoot dynasty King Amoghvarsha and and the rulers of Latta dynasty of Saundatti epithets (called themselves) as Lattaloorpur Parmeshwar.(The god of Lattalur). Apart from Rashtrakoot,Saundatti,,Chalukya,Yadav dynasties Bahamani,Mughals,Nizam dynasties also ruled this region.The people of this region by and large of Marathwada fought against Nizam of Hyderabad during independence movement successfully.by end of 19th century Latur was a small village situated in Ausa tahasil. During that time Ausa was having its own importance. In the beginning of 20th century Latur was declared as tehasli and in 1981 it was awarded the status of district place.Most of the district is the part of Balaghat plateau situated in between river basins of river Godavari and Bhima The basins of rivers namely Manyad,Manjara, Terna and plateau Balaghat covers the Latur district.
